Abstract of ASTM A106 Gr B
ASTM A106 seamless pipe, also known as ASME SA106 pipe, is
generally defined as pipe of seamed construction, primarily used
for transporting gases and liquids from one location to another,
ASTM A106 pipe is best suited for high temperature service and
handles large amounts of pressure. These pipes are manufactured in
accordance with ANSI B36.10/ASME B36.10 dimensional standards. Of
the ASTM A106, Grade B is the most commonly used pipe and is
readily available worldwide due to its economical price.
The minimum yield strength is 240 MPa for Grade B pipe and 275 MPa
for Grade C. The minimum tensile strength is 415 MPa for Grade B
pipe and 485 MPa for Grade C pipe with a minimum elongation of
16.5%/30%.
These pipes are produced by cold-drawing finishing or hot
finishing. The finished cold-drawn pipes require a subsequent heat
treatment of normalizing at 900 degrees Celsius. These pipes are
mainly used in oil and gas refineries, petrochemical plants,
boilers, chemical plants, shipbuilding and other industries.
