What is a Gabion Wall?

Gabions are essentially rocks in baskets! Wire or welded mesh baskets are commonly filled with sandstone, bluestone or river pebbles. From a 4000 year old idea, the modern Gabion baskets were first industrially produced in the 1880’s, when the double twisted wire mesh was first introduced. This particular double twisted woven netting ensures that in the event of a wire being cut, the double twist prevents the unraveling of the mesh. All the edges of the Gabion baskets are reinforced by a stiffer and even stronger wire.

Qijie Welded Gabion Baskets use 5mm welded, hot dip galvanised steel mesh in a 50mm x 50mm grid. This gives you 45% more steel than 75x75mm grid baskets which adds substantially to the overall strength. This will minimize the chance of "bulging" which is often seen in weaker baskets.

All edges are bound together using spiral joiners which form two passes within each 50mm opening- again to double the strength.
