The SFF-8472 standard is the key factor to judge whether the quality and compatibility of the compatible optical transceiver are reliable. It is formulated by the SFF Committee, which is used to define the data diagnostic and monitoring interface (DDMI) of the fiber optic transceiver. It can help us understand the operation parameters of the optical module in real time. In general, the SFF-8472 standard defines a framework for the fiber optic transceiver of third party suppliers, and the quality of the optical transceiver to meet this standard is basically guaranteed. The following three factors are described in detail to determine whether a compatible fiber optic transceiver is reliable.

1, Whether with data diagnostic monitoring interface required by SFF-8472 standard (DDMI): the fiber optic transceiver with DDMI is with alarm function, when one or more data of optical module is not within the manufacturer specified standard parameters during operation, the host will receive alarm from the fiber optic transceiver so that it will remind the user about the fault. According to the SFF-8472 standard, the below 5 parameters of the optical transceiver should be monitored in real time include voltage, temperature, receiving power, transmission power and bias current.

2, With fault location function: in the optical fiber link, the fault location can help people quickly find and repair the fault and reduce the time of the down.

3, Whether compatibility is verified: compatibility verification is the only way to analyze whether the optical transceiver can operate normally in the working environment required by the host device, which is the only way to decide the performance of fiber optic transceiver. In general, the higher the performance of the optical module is, the stronger the compatibility is.
