Cast Steel Floating Ball Valve Class 150-600 Fire-Safe API 607 Flanged
Floating ball valves offer quick quarter-turn operation, visual indication of the valve position, straight uninterrupted flow and compact size. The floating ball is sustained by two valve seats, one on the upstream and the other on the downstream side of the valve. The upstream pressure pushes the ball to the downstream seat ring, compressing the seat to shut off the fluid, guaranteeing bubble-tight sealing. The full bore design minimizes pressure drop across valve while maximizing flow capability for general line services.
Floating ball valve is mainly used in water, oils, natural gas, chemical solvents, acids, etc. with tight shutoff and no maintenance. Due to the low pressure ratings and small sizes, the torque to open or close the valve is small hence mainly manual operation is applied.
Design Features:
1. Special Seat Design
The floating ball valve are normally designed with a flexible seat.
When the medium pressure is low, the contact area between the seat
and ball is smaller, which forms a higher pressure at the contact
area to ensure reliable sealing. When the medium pressure gets
higher, the contact area of the seat and ball becomes bigger along
with the elastic deformation of the seat, so that the seat could
endure higher medium thrust without being damaged.
2. Fire-safe Design
In case the fire accidently occurs in the pipe and valve, the seat
ring made of PTFE or other non-metallic materials could be burned
down under high temperature, causing massive leakage to the valve.
The fire-safe seat design is a precaution design between the ball
and seat. After the valve seat is burned away, the medium pressure
would push the ball continuously towards the downstream metal seal
to form an auxiliary metal-to-metal sealing, which could
effectively reduce valve leakage. In addition, the middle flange
sealing gasket is made of metal spiral-wound gasket, which could
also ensure sealing under high temperature. The fire-safe design of
KOLINK ball valves are approved per API 607.
3. Blowout-proof and Sealing Of Stem
The stem is machined with an integral collar at its bottom end, and
it is installed from the valve inner cavity, so that the stem is
blocked by the valve neck and would not be blown out by the medium
even under the abnormal pressure-rising condition in the valve
cavity. In addition, to avoid leakage after the stem packing is
burned down in case of fire, the thrust washer between the stem
shoulder and body contact would form a positive sealing. The
sealing force would increase with the increase of medium pressure,
to ensure reliable stem sealing under various pressure, preventing
leakage and avoiding accident spreading.
4. The chevron packing.
The chevron packing could effectively adjust the sealing pressure against medium pressure at the gland area, and make the sealing of stem packing more reliable.
5. Anti-static Structure
The ball valve is provided with anti-static devices and could form
a static channel between the ball and body through the stem, to
discharge the static electricity built up due to friction during
the operation of the valve, to through the pipeline, avoiding fire
or explosion that may be caused by electric spark and ensuring
system safety.
6. Valve Locking Device
The manual ball valve could be locked in position when it is
fully-open or fully-closed. The positioning piece with locking hole
is designed to avoid valve misoperation, and it could also prevent
valve opening or closing accidently caused by pipeline vibration or
other unpredictable factors. It is effective especially for
inflammable and explosive oil, chemical and medical pipelines or
field tubing.
Furthermore, the head of the stem that is installed with the wrench adopts double-D design. When the valve is open, the valve wrench is parallel to the pipeline, and when the valve is fully closed, the wrench is perpendicular to the pipeline, so that the fully open and closed indications of the valve are unmistakable.
