1, Basic Overview
Rice mill is a specialized equipment used in rice processing to
peel and whiten brown rice.
2, Working principle
Rubbing rice mill (pressure rice mill)
Relying on strong friction to whiten brown rice. For example, the
iron roller rice mill has rollers cast from white cast iron. This
type of rice mill is relatively small, and the pressure inside the
whitening chamber is high. It generates significant pressure
between the rice grains and the rough rice rollers, between the
rice grains and the rice sieve, and between each rice grain,
forming a grinding and scraping effect on the surface of brown rice
to remove the rice husk. However, brown rice with fragile strength
is prone to breakage.
Milling rice mill
Mainly using the grinding effect to remove the surface of brown
rice. The pressure inside the whitening chamber is relatively low,
and the corresponding whitening chamber volume is large, so the
machine model is also large, and the rollers are mostly sand
rollers. The roller speed is relatively high, usually around 10-16
meters per second, and the surface of the rice grains is rough, but
there are fewer broken rice.
Hybrid rice mill
Use the combined action of rubbing and grinding to remove the skin.
The grinding roller can be a sand roller or an iron roller, and the
pressure in the whitening chamber is between that of the milling
and scraping rice mills. The model is moderate and the process
effect is good.
3, Application
Rice mills are mainly used in the rice processing industry to
process brown rice into white rice, which is one of the most
important stages of rice processing and has a decisive impact on
the quality and yield of rice products.
4, Classification
Classified by working principle
Scratch off type: such as iron roller rice mill, suitable for processing rice grains
with poor hardness, brittle structure, and dry and hard surface.
Grinding type: such as a sand roller rice mill, which produces rough surface but
less broken rice grains.
Mixed type: It combines the functions of wiping and grinding, and has a good
process effect.
Classification by installation form of roller shaft
Vertical rice mill: The main shaft is vertically arranged, and it is mostly a sand
roller rice mill with low whitening pressure, suitable for
processing powdery rice with a relatively brittle structure.
Horizontal rice mill: The main shaft is horizontally arranged, and three types of
rollers are used: sand roller, iron roller, and sand iron combined
roller.
Classified by different roller materials
Iron roller rice mill: The grinding roller is an iron roller, cast from white cast iron,
with good surface quality and wear resistance.
Sand roller rice mill: It uses sand rollers as the grinding rollers and belongs to the
milling and mixing types of rice mills.
Sand and iron combined roller rice mill: The grinding roller can be selected from sand roller or iron
roller, depending on the specific situation.
Classified by whether it sprays air or not
Spray air rice mill: Injecting airflow into the whitening chamber during the rice
milling process helps improve the whitening effect and enhance
product quality, such as a spray air iron roller rice mill.
Non air spraying rice mill: Traditional rice mills without air spraying devices have
relatively poor rice milling quality.
5, Selection Guide
► According to the characteristics of rice, if the rice has a high
hardness and a tight structure, it can be selected as a rubbing or
mixing type rice mill; If the rice structure is relatively brittle,
a milling or vertical rice mill can be considered.
► Considering the production scale, if it is small-scale
processing, small scraping or milling rice mills may meet the
demand; For large-scale production, a large hybrid rice mill or a
combination of multiple rice mills may be required.
► When there is a high demand for product quality, it is preferred
to choose a spray air rice mill to reduce broken rice and improve
the smoothness of rice grains.
6, Maintenance and upkeep
► Regularly inspect the rice sieve, rice knife, drum core and other
components, and check whether the bolts and nuts are tightened.
► Rotate the drum before starting up to check for any jamming
phenomenon.
► Keep the rice mill clean and avoid the accumulation of impurities
such as rice bran that can affect its performance.
7, Precautions
When starting up, first run the rice mill with no load to normal
speed, then pour the rice into the feeding hopper, and pay
attention to the operation of the rice mill at all times.
Be cautious when adjusting the feed flow rate or adjusting the
outlet pressure valve, because the higher the pressure, the more
severe the rice grains are crushed, the higher the rice skin
removal rate, and the higher the accuracy of white rice. However,
the increase in broken rice also increases accordingly.
8, Troubleshooting
If uneven rice milling occurs, it may be due to wear of the rice
cutter or uneven wear of the grinding roller, and the worn parts
need to be inspected and replaced.
If there is abnormal noise during machine operation, it may be due
to loose components or foreign objects entering the whitening
chamber. The machine should be stopped and inspected in a timely
manner.
