N6 Nickel 200 N02200 pure nickel alloy overview:
The characteristics of commercial pure nickel or low alloy nickel
are very useful in many fields, such as chemical processes and
electronics. Nickel has some resistance to various reducing
chemicals, and resistance to caustic is irreplaceable. Compared
with nickel-based alloys, commercial pure nickel has higher
conductivity and thermal conductivity, as well as higher Curie
temperature and good magnetostrictive properties. Annealed nickel
has low hardness and good ductility and flexibility. These
properties, combined with their good solderability, make the metal
easy to form. Nickel has a relatively low rate of work hardening,
but it can be cooled to a medium strength level and maintain its
ductility.
N6 pure nickel alloy has good mechanical properties and excellent
resistance in many corrosive environments. Other useful features of
the alloy include its magnetic properties, magnetostrictive
properties, high thermal and electrical conductivity, low gas
content and low evaporation pressure. The corrosion resistance of
N6 makes it particularly useful in applications such as food,
man-made fibers and caustic that require product purity. It is also
widely used when corrosion resistance is a primary consideration in
structural applications. Other uses include chemical drums,
electrical and electronic components, aerospace, and missile
components.

N6 pure nickel alloys have good mechanical properties at higher
temperatures, however nickel 200 is typically limited to use below
600 °F (315 °C). At high temperatures, the nickel 200 product will
be graphitized, which will seriously degrade the performance of the
product. When used above °F (315 °C), nickel 201 is more commonly
used. Pure nickel N6 and nickel N4 are structural materials
approved by ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. The N6 approved
service temperature can reach 600°F (315°C) and the N4 approved
service temperature can reach 1250°F (677°C).
Corrosion resistance of pure nickel
Pure nickel is particularly resistant to alkali corrosion and is
stable in high temperature or molten alkali, so it is mainly used
in the alkali industry. Nickel is extremely stable in seawater and
salt solutions and organic media (such as fatty acids, phenols,
alcohols, etc.) at room temperature. Not resistant to inorganic
acid corrosion, also unstable in acetic acid and formic acid.
