Casting Process

The surface of the wax mold is covered with a refractory ceramic material. Once the ceramic material is hardened, the interior of the wax material forms the geometry of the desired casting. Then the paraffin is melted and derivatized, and then the cavity is filled with molten metal until the metal is solidified in the ceramic mold. Then, the metal casting is taken out, and this manufacturing technique is also called a lost wax process.

Investment casting has a history of more than 5,550 years, dating back to the ancient times of ancient Egypt and China. In industrial manufacturing, parts manufactured by this method include: dental clamps, gears, cams, ratchets, jewelry, turbine blades, mechanical parts and other components with complex geometries.

● Features

1. It can cast extremely complicated parts with good surface finish;

2. Make parts as thin as 0.015in (0.4 mm) thickness;

3. Produce high-precision products, tolerances can reach 0.003in (0.076 mm);

4. It is possible to cast almost all metal parts, but this method is generally only applicable to smaller parts, and it is currently possible to manufacture products weighing up to 75 lbs (about 34 kg);

5. The manufacturing process can be automated;

6. The investment casting process is complicated and expensive.
