What is over voltage
Overvoltage refers to the long-term voltage fluctuation phenomenon
when the rms voltage of the AC voltage rises above the rated value
and exceeds the rated value for more than 1 minute. The overvoltage
is usually the result of the load switching. For example: Cut off a
large capacity load or energize the capacitor bank (overvoltage
caused by excess reactive power compensation).
The abnormal voltage that exceeds the working voltage in the power
system under certain conditions rises, which is an electromagnetic
disturbance phenomenon in the power system. The insulation of
electrical equipment withstands the operating voltage for a long
time, and must also be able to withstand a certain degree of
overvoltage, so as to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the
power system. Studying the causes of various overvoltages,
predicting their amplitudes, and taking measures to restrict them
are the preconditions for determining the insulation coordination
of power systems, and are of great significance for the manufacture
of electrical equipment and the operation of power systems.
Overvoltage causes
Abrupt changes in the state of the circuit and the electromagnetic
state in the power system are the root cause of overvoltage
generation. Overvoltage is divided into two categories of external
overvoltage and internal overvoltage. Studying the causes of
various overvoltages in power systems, predicting their amplitudes,
and taking measures to limit them are prerequisites for determining
the insulation coordination of power systems, and are of great
significance for the manufacture of electrical equipment and the
operation of power systems.
Regardless of the external overvoltage or internal overvoltage, it
is affected by many random factors. It is necessary to combine the
specific conditions of the power system, obtain data through
various methods such as calculation, simulation and field
measurement, and use probabilistic statistical methods to predict
overvoltage.
For the cause of over-voltage, the power system must take
protective measures to limit the over-voltage amplitude. Such as
the installation of lightning protection lines, lightning
arresters, reactors, switch contacts plus parallel resistance,
etc., in order to reasonably implement insulation coordination to
ensure the safe operation of the power system.
