with orienting the chip correctly during assembly.
• Machine solderability. SMT microcontroller chips are designed to
be readily soldered by automated pick-and-place equipment and wave
soldering machines. Their small size, thin profile, exposed
contacts, and uniform pin pitch facilitate robotic assembly.
• Fine-pitch ball grid array (BGA) style. Many SMT microcontrollers
use a BGA package where the underside of the chip has an array of
metal balls that form connections to the circuit board pads. This
low-profile package provides an excellent electrical and thermal
interface.
