Male external catheters, also known as condom catheters, are a treatment option for men with urinary incontinence. Users apply the external catheter on the outside of the penis and connect it to a leg bag or beside drainage bag to collect urine.

How often should the male external catheter be replaced?

External condom catheters are often used on male patients who are not able to hold their urine. There is no tube placed in the penis; instead a condom-like catheter is placed over the penis with a tube that leads to a drainage bag. Note: The condom catheter must be changed every 24 hours.

How does a man sleep with a catheter?

Arrange the catheter tubing so that it does not twist or loop. When you are getting into bed, hang the urine bag beside the bed. You can sleep in any position as long as the bedside bag is below your bladder. Do not place the urine bag on the floor.
