Yankauer Suction Handle standard open tip with 4 holes with the 250cm Suction Connecting Tube
The "Yankauer Suction Handle Standard Open Tip With 4 Holes" is a
medical suction device commonly used in healthcare settings for the
removal of fluids, secretions, or debris from a patient's airway or
surgical site.
1. Yankauer Suction Handle:
- Purpose: The Yankauer suction handle is a rigid suction
instrument used for oral suctioning. It is commonly employed in
surgical and medical procedures to clear the mouth and throat of
fluids and debris.
- Standard Open Tip: The "Standard Open Tip" refers to the design
of the suction tip, which is open and has a large, non-closed
opening. This design is suitable for effective suctioning and
minimizes the risk of tissue damage.
2. 4 Holes:
- Number of Holes: The Yankauer suction handle is specified to have
four holes. Multiple holes provide efficient suction and help
prevent the instrument from becoming easily blocked.
3. Suction Connecting Tube (250cm):
- Suction Connecting Tube Length: The connecting tube is 250cm
long, providing flexibility and reach during suction procedures.
The length allows the healthcare professional to connect the
Yankauer handle to a suction source while maintaining
maneuverability.
4. Application:
- Suctioning: The Yankauer suction handle is commonly used for
suctioning fluids and debris from the oral cavity and upper airway
during medical and surgical procedures. It is often used in
conjunction with a suction machine or system.
5. Material:
- Typically Disposable: Yankauer suction handles are often
disposable to prevent cross-contamination between patients.
However, reusable versions may be available and can be sterilized
for repeated use.
Healthcare professionals use the Yankauer suction handle to maintain a clear airway during surgeries, dental procedures, and other medical interventions where suctioning is necessary. The open tip design and multiple holes contribute to efficient and controlled suction.

What is a Yankauer suction handle?
Information. Yankauer Suction handle is a suction tool for removing
particulates and viscous material. It is used together with the
Suction Connection Tube, and it is intended for suctioning the body
fluid in combination with aspirator during operation on thoracic
cavity or abdominal cavity.
How do you use a Yankauer suction tube?
Insert yankauer catheter and apply suction by covering the thumb
hole. Run catheter along gum line to the pharynx in a circular
motion, keeping yankauer moving. Encourage patient to cough.
Movement prevents the catheter from suctioning to the oral mucosa
and causing trauma to the tissues.
Why is it called Yankauer suction?
In 1907, otolaryngologist Sidney Yankauer revolutionized the world
of medical suction with his eponymous Yankauer suction catheter.
Dr. Yankauer worked at the outpatient surgery department in Mount
Sinai hospital and while there, this unassuming ENT specialist
invented numerous pieces of medical equipment.
