Drop Ball Circulation Valve / Ball Activated Circulation Valve For
Coiled Tubing Service
The Drop Ball Circulating valve is the ball activated circulation
valve which is designed to allow circulation above the coiled
tubing work toolstring. The circulating valve is activated by using
a drop ball and can be adjusted on the surface to shear out by
varying the number and type of shear pins used. Pressure applied to
the drop ball causes the pins to shear and the sleeve to move down,
allowing circulation via the side ports.
To use a ball drop, a correctly sized ball should be pumped through
the CT string to seat in the circulation valve. This ball blocks
off the flow through the tool. As increased pressure is applied
through the CT string, the shear screws holding the seat will
shear, shifting it downwards and uncovering the circulating ports.
The increased flow area allows increased pump rate through the CT
string.
