PDC bit used for geoloical prospecting, development of oil and gas, drilling water wells, blast holes and making holes for seismic prospecting, construction engineering.now there are 2 types: Matrix and Steel Body.
Matrix PDC drill bit
The "matrix" is a very hard but quite brittle composite material,
formed by metallurgical bonding of tungsten carbide particles with
softer and tougher metal binders. The matrix is an ideal drill
material because its hardness can resist wear and corrosion. It can
withstand relatively high compressive loads, but compared to steel,
its impact load resistance is lower.
The matrix is relatively heterogeneous because it is a composite
material. Due to the varying sizes and positions of tungsten
carbide particles contained in it (depending on design and
environment), its physical properties are slightly more difficult
to predict than those of steel.
In environments where corrosion of the drill body may cause drill
bit failure, it is usually preferred to use PDC drill bits with
tire bodies rather than steel body drill bits. For diamond drill
bits, only the matrix structure can be used.
Steel PDC drill bit
Steel is opposite to the substrate. Steel can withstand high impact
loads, but it is relatively soft and lacks protective functions.
The strength and ductility of steel give the main body of steel
drill bits high impact resistance. The steel body is much stronger
than the base body.
One advantage of steel drill bits is that they can be easily
rebuilt multiple times, as worn or damaged tools can be easily
replaced. This is a particular advantage for operators in low-cost
drilling environments.
Polycrystalline Diamond Composite (PDC) Cutting Tools
Diamonds are the hardest known material. This hardness gives it
superior cutting performance compared to any other material. PDC is
extremely important for drilling because it aggregates small,
inexpensive artificial diamonds into relatively large randomly
oriented crystal blocks, which can form useful shapes known as
diamond plateaus. The diamond table is a part of the cutting teeth
that come into contact with the geological formation. In addition
to hardness, PDC diamond countertops also have a fundamental
characteristic of drill bit cutting teeth: they can effectively
bond with tungsten carbide materials that can be brazed (connected)
to the drill bit body. Diamonds themselves do not bond together,
nor can they be connected by brazing.
