Here are some methods to distinguish TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) PPF (paint protection film):
I. Observe the appearance
Transparency: High-quality TPU PPF has extremely high transparency and can highly restore the color and texture of car paint. When TPU PPF is pasted on transparent glass or plastic plate for observation, the film should be almost invisible, as if directly seeing the background color of the glass or plastic plate. If the transparency of the film is not high, it will make the car paint look blurry and affect the appearance of the vehicle.
For example, paste a piece of high-quality TPU PPF and a common plastic film on the same transparent glass respectively. From a side view, it can be clearly seen that TPU PPF hardly affects the transparency of the glass, while the common plastic film will make the glass look a bit blurry.
Glossiness: TPU PPF should have good glossiness and can make the surface of car paint more shiny. Observe the surface of the film in a place with sufficient light to see if there is uniform gloss reflection. If the surface of the film is dull or the gloss is uneven, it may be a product of poor quality.
For example, paste high-quality TPU PPF and inferior film on the vehicle respectively. When compared in the sun, it can be found that the vehicle paint surface with high-quality TPU PPF is more dazzling, while the inferior film may make the paint surface look relatively dull.
Flatness: Check whether the surface of TPU PPF is flat without bubbles, wrinkles or wavy deformations. High-quality TPU PPF should be completely attached to the car paint surface after installation without any flaws. You can gently touch the surface of the film with your hand to feel its flatness.
For example, after installing TPU PPF, carefully observe the film surface of various parts of the vehicle body. If bubbles or wrinkles are found, it indicates that the installation quality is poor or there is a problem with the quality of the film.
II. Test performance
Scratch resistance: Gently scratch the surface of TPU PPF with sharp objects (such as keys, nails, etc.) and observe whether the film is prone to scratches. High-quality TPU PPF has strong scratch resistance, and slight scratches will not leave obvious marks. If the film is easily scratched, it indicates that its scratch resistance is poor and it may not be real TPU PPF.
For example, scratch the surface of TPU PPF with a key a few times and then wipe it with a clean cloth. If there are no obvious scratches on the film surface, it indicates that the film has good scratch resistance.
Tensile property: Take a small section of TPU PPF and gently stretch it by hand to observe the stretching degree and recovery ability of the film. TPU material has good elasticity and tensile property. It can be stretched to a certain extent without breaking and can quickly return to its original state after being released. If the film is easily broken or cannot return to its original state during the stretching process, it may not be made of TPU.
For example, stretch a small section of TPU PPF to twice its original length. If the film can quickly return to its original shape after being released, it indicates that its tensile property is good.
Anti-yellowing property: Expose TPU PPF to sunlight or a high-temperature environment for a period of time and observe whether the film will turn yellow. High-quality TPU PPF has good anti-yellowing property and will not easily turn yellow even under long-term sunlight exposure and high-temperature environment. If the film shows obvious yellowing in a short time, it indicates that its anti-yellowing property is poor and it may not be real TPU PPF.
For example, place a piece of TPU PPF and a common plastic film in the sun for a week at the same time, and then compare the color changes of the two. If TPU PPF hardly changes while the common plastic film has obviously turned yellow, it indicates that TPU PPF has better anti-yellowing property.
