Cr20Ni80/80Ni20Cr/NiCr8020 Nickel Chromium Wire Alloy Heating Element Anti Oxidation

Cr20Ni80 (also known as 80Ni20Cr or NiCr8020) is a nickel-chromium alloy consisting of approximately 20% chromium and 80% nickel. It is highly valued for its excellent resistance to oxidation and corrosion, especially at high temperatures. The high nickel content enhances its resistance to acidic and alkaline environments, while chromium provides a protective oxide layer that improves its durability and oxidation resistance.

This alloy is known for maintaining its strength and stability in extreme temperatures, typically up to 1,100°C (2,012°F), making it ideal for high-heat applications. It also offers good mechanical properties, such as strength, ductility, and resistance to wear and fatigue.

Cr20Ni80 is commonly used in applications such as heating elements, electric furnace components, resistors, and industrial equipment that require resistance to thermal stress, oxidation, and corrosion. It is a reliable material for use in industries like electric heating, chemical processing, and high-temperature applications.

Some key features of Cr20Ni80 include:

  • High Electrical Resistivity:

Cr20Ni80 has a high electrical resistivity of approximately 1.09 μΩ·m at 20°C, which is beneficial for applications requiring high resistance values in a small volume.

  • Temperature Coefficient of Resistance (TCR):

The alloy exhibits a low TCR of less than 200 ppm/°C over the range of 20°C to 1000°C, indicating minimal resistance change with temperature variations.

  • Corrosion and Oxidation Resistance:

Cr20Ni80 demonstrates excellent resistance to corrosion and oxidation, especially in oxidizing environments, with a formation of a protective chromium oxide layer at high temperatures.

  • Mechanical Strength:

The alloy possesses good mechanical strength with a tensile strength of at least 650 MPa and an elongation rate of 20% at room temperature.

  • Thermal Properties:

Cr20Ni80 has a thermal conductivity of 15 W/(m·K) at 20°C and a coefficient of thermal expansion of 18 x 10⁻⁶/°C, contributing to its stability and performance in high-temperature applications.

  • High-Temperature Performance:

It can be used continuously up to 1200°C in air, making it suitable for high-temperature heating elements and other components that require long-term stability at elevated temperatures.

  • Processing and Formability:

Cr20Ni80 can be processed through various methods including cold rolling, hot rolling, and drawing, offering flexibility in manufacturing heating elements and other components.

These characteristics make Cr20Ni80 an ideal material for high-temperature electrical heating applications where resistance stability, corrosion resistance, and mechanical strength are critical.

Applications:

  • Heating Elements: Cr20Ni80 is extensively used in heating elements for both domestic and industrial appliances due to its high resistance to oxidation and corrosion, especially under conditions of frequent switching or wide temperature fluctuations.
  • Industrial Furnaces: The alloy is utilized in industrial electric furnaces, enameling furnaces, and other high-temperature applications where its ability to withstand temperatures up to 1200°C (2190°F) is crucial.
