N02200/Nickel 200/2.4060/NS5200/N5 Pure Nickel Wire Non-Magnetic For Thermal And Electrical Conductivity

Nickel 200 (UNS N02200, also known as 2.4060 or NS5200) is a commercially pure nickel alloy, which means it has a very high nickel content (99.6% minimum) and is characterized by its excellent corrosion resistance, high thermal and electrical conductivity, and good mechanical properties. It is used in applications where the corrosion resistance of pure nickel is required, particularly in moderately corrosive environments and at elevated temperatures.

Nickel 200 (UNS N02200) is a pure nickel alloy offering excellent corrosion resistance in alkaline environments, good mechanical properties, and high thermal and electrical conductivity. While it performs well in reducing conditions, it is less effective in highly oxidizing environments, where more alloyed materials may be preferred. Its good ductility, resistance to alkalis, and non-magnetic properties make it suitable for use in industries such as chemical processing, electrical components, and food processing.

Some key features of Nickel200 alloy include:

  • Corrosion Resistance:

Nickel 200 is highly resistant to alkalies (both concentrated and dilute), particularly at elevated temperatures.

Exhibits good resistance to reducing environments and certain organic acids, such as acetic and sulfuric acids.

Good resistance to corrosion in neutral and mildly alkaline environments, such as water, brine, and seawater.

Prone to corrosion in oxidizing environments, where it is typically outperformed by more alloyed grades like Inconel or Hastelloy.

  • Mechanical Properties:

Tensile Strength: Approximately 55-80 ksi (379-552 MPa).

Yield Strength: Approximately 30-55 ksi (207-379 MPa).

Elongation: Around 40-50% in a 2-inch gauge length.

Hardness: Generally soft and ductile, making it easy to form and shape.

Thermal and Electrical Conductivity: Good conductor of both heat and electricity, making it suitable for electrical and heat transfer applications.

  • Weldability:

Nickel 200 can be welded using common methods, including TIG, MIG, arc welding, and spot welding.

It exhibits good weldability, although precautions should be taken to avoid contamination by sulfur, which can cause brittleness.

  • Magnetic Properties:

Nickel 200 is non-magnetic, which makes it useful in applications where the absence of magnetism is critical.

  • Formability:

It is highly ductile, allowing for easy fabrication into wires, sheets, plates, and tubes. It can be drawn, rolled, and forged into intricate shapes.

  • Thermal Properties:

The alloy can withstand temperatures up to 600°F (315°C) without significantly losing its mechanical properties, although its strength increases at lower temperatures and decreases at higher temperatures.

Exhibits good thermal stability, particularly in reducing environments.

Applications:

  • Chemical Processing: Used for the construction of tanks, piping, and other equipment in alkaline solutions, such as in caustic soda production.
  • Electrical and Electronic Components: Due to its high electrical conductivity, it is used in electrical applications such as electrical contacts, batteries, resistors, and wires.
  • Food Processing: Used in applications where food or beverages are processed, as it does not impart any taste or contaminants.
  • Heat Exchangers: It is used in heat exchangers, boilers, and condensers where the material is exposed to a range of environments, including brine and alkaline solutions.
  • Marine: For parts exposed to seawater or brine, though it is less resistant than other nickel alloys to pitting and crevice corrosion.

Forms:

  • Nickel 200 is available in a variety of forms, including wire, plate, sheet, tubing, and pipe, depending on the application requirements.
