CuNi6 NC010 2.0807 Stable CuNi Alloy for Electrical Connectors Coinage and Marine Hardware

CuNi6 NC010 2.0807 Copper-Nickel Alloy Wire is a copper-nickel alloy containing 6% nickel, offering enhanced corrosion resistance, mechanical strength, and thermal/electrical conductivity. It is ideal for marine and offshore applications, electrical components, and heat exchangers, thanks to its resistance to seawater corrosion, biofouling, and wear. While it provides good strength and ductility, it may not be as strong as high-performance alloys used in extreme mechanical conditions. CuNi6 offers a reliable material for a wide range of industrial applications where corrosion resistance and thermal conductivity are key requirements.

Key Features of CuNi6 NC010 2.0807 Copper-Nickel Alloy Wire:

  • Composition:

Copper (Cu): Approximately 94%, which provides excellent electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, and ductility.

Nickel (Ni): Approximately 6%, which enhances the alloy's strength, corrosion resistance, and oxidation resistance in various environments, especially in seawater and industrial applications.

Iron (Fe) and Manganese (Mn): Small amounts of these elements further contribute to the alloy's strength and resistance to corrosion.

  • Corrosion Resistance:

Seawater and Marine Resistance: CuNi6 provides excellent resistance to seawater corrosion, making it highly suitable for marine applications, such as shipbuilding, offshore installations, cooling systems, and seawater heat exchangers.

Good Resistance to Acids and Alkaline Solutions: The alloy has good resistance to mild acids, alkaline solutions, and brine, which makes it useful in chemical processing and industrial equipment exposed to such conditions.

Biofouling Resistance: CuNi6 exhibits anti-fouling properties, preventing the build-up of marine organisms on surfaces, which is important in heat exchangers and marine hardware exposed to water environments.

  • Mechanical Properties:

Higher Strength than CuNi4: The 6% nickel content enhances the alloy’s strength and durability, providing higher tensile strength compared to alloys with lower nickel content like CuNi4, while still maintaining good ductility and workability.

Fatigue and Wear Resistance: The alloy is resistant to fatigue and wear, making it suitable for environments subject to thermal cycling and mechanical stress.

Workability: CuNi6 can be easily cold-worked and hot-worked, making it versatile in manufacturing processes, and can be formed into wire, rods, sheets, and tubes.

  • Electrical and Thermal Conductivity:

Good Electrical Conductivity: CuNi6 retains good electrical conductivity despite the addition of nickel, making it ideal for electrical wiring, connectors, and other electrical components.

High Thermal Conductivity: The alloy also offers high thermal conductivity, which is crucial in applications such as heat exchangers, cooling systems, and radiators.

  • Weldability and Fabrication:

Weldability: CuNi6 can be welded using standard methods such as TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) and MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding, though it is important to control heat input to avoid damage to the material during the process.

Formability: The alloy is highly formable and can be processed into various shapes, including wires, tubes, and strips, making it adaptable for numerous industrial applications.

Applications:

  • Marine and Offshore Applications: CuNi6 is commonly used in marine environments for seawater pipes, heat exchangers, condensers, and cooling systems, where its corrosion resistance in seawater is essential.
  • Electrical Components: The alloy is well-suited for electrical wires, connectors, and cables, providing good electrical conductivity and mechanical strength.
  • Heat Exchangers and Cooling Systems: Its high thermal conductivity and corrosion resistance make CuNi6 ideal for use in heat exchangers, cooling systems, and radiators in both marine and industrial settings.
  • Chemical Processing Equipment: CuNi6 is used in chemical processing environments where resistance to mild acidic and alkaline solutions is required, such as in industrial piping and valves.

Advantages of CuNi6 NC010 2.0807 Copper-Nickel Alloy Wire:

  • Enhanced Corrosion Resistance: CuNi6 provides superior seawater resistance and biofouling resistance, making it ideal for marine and offshore applications, as well as heat exchangers and cooling systems.
  • Moderate Strength and Durability: The 6% nickel content increases the alloy’s strength compared to lower-nickel copper alloys, while retaining good ductility and formability.
  • Good Electrical and Thermal Conductivity: The alloy maintains good electrical and thermal conductivity, making it ideal for electrical wiring and thermal management systems.
  • Versatility in Fabrication: CuNi6 can be easily processed into wires, rods, tubes, and sheets, offering flexibility in manufacturing for various industrial applications.
  • Resistance to Fatigue and Wear: The alloy’s fatigue resistance and wear resistance make it suitable for demanding environments where thermal cycling or vibration is prevalent.
