1. Prepare the Layers:

   • Top Fabric Layer: Choose a durable and comfortable fabric for the top layer. This could be a pre-quilted fabric or a plain fabric that you will quilt.

   • Padding Layers: Select the type and thickness of padding you want. Common materials include foam, memory foam, and fiberfill.

   • Bottom Fabric Layer: If desired, choose a fabric for the bottom layer. This is optional and depends on the design of the mattress.

2. Cutting the Layers:

   • Measure and Cut: Measure and cut the top fabric, padding, and bottom fabric to the desired size of the mattress. Use a ruler and rotary cutter for precision.

3. Layering:

   • Lay Flat: Lay the bottom fabric layer (if using) flat on a large work surface.

   • Padding: Place the padding layers on top of the bottom fabric.

   • Top Fabric: Lay the top fabric layer on top of the padding, right side up.

   • Pin or Clip: Use quilting pins or clips to secure the layers together. Make sure the layers are smooth and free of wrinkles.
