Brake structure
Disc brake discs (discs) are divided into solid discs (single
discs) and duct discs (double discs). The solid disc is easier for
us to understand. To put it bluntly, it is solid. Vented Disc, as
the name implies, has a ventilation effect. From the outside, it
has many holes on the circumference that lead to the center of the
circle, called air ducts. When the car is in motion, the air
convection through the air duct can achieve the purpose of heat
dissipation, which is much better than the solid heat dissipation
effect. Most cars are front-drive, and the frequency meter of the
front disc is worn out, so the front air duct disc and the rear
solid disc (single disc) are used. Of course, there are also wind
tunnels before and after, but the manufacturing cost is not too
bad.
The first picture in this article is a perforated scoring disc. Its
braking performance and heat dissipation have been improved to a
certain extent, but there is a lot of wear on the brake pads. DIY
modified brake disc, friendly tips: 1. The material of the disc
must be good enough, without too many defects that affect the
strength, such as large pores, sand holes, and no shrinkage is
allowed. 2. The spacing and size distribution of the holes, etc.,
because one more hole is drilled, the strength there is a bit
weaker. If the disc breaks, the consequences will be disastrous. 3.
Symmetrical equalization. If the balance of the disc is severely
damaged, it will have a certain impact on the spindle during
driving. 3. This is hard work, so be careful. If there is no
professional guidance, it is best not to do it recklessly.
Perforated marking brake discs, also known as "high-speed discs" or
"modified discs", are generally assembled in high-performance cars,
such as racing cars, sports cars, or sports cars. With the rise of
refitting in the domestic automobile industry in recent years,
there are many car enthusiasts doing DIY by themselves, obtaining
perforated and marking brake discs from various sources and then
changing them by themselves. Perforated scoring brake disc is a
double-edged sword, and its advantages and disadvantages also
coexist, but this kind of brake disc will increase the wear of the
brake pad, and the material and processing requirements of the
brake disc are also relatively high. Many small companies pretend
to be brands from European, Taiwanese, Japanese and other
manufacturers to produce highly imitation brake discs. Many players
who like DIY need to pay more attention.
The brake disc is a very important part of the brake system. A good
brake disc brakes stably, without noise or jitter. Many DIY players
do not have certain professional knowledge and do not change the
brake discs by themselves, because the original brake discs have
been tested by many professional engineers and can withstand the
braking force of their own cars. Sometimes after replacing the
perforated and scribed brake disc, the braking effect may not
necessarily be better than the original ordinary disc. Therefore,
as the total parts related to safety, you also need to be cautious
when refitting.
In addition, there is a disc that integrates HUB, ABS rings,
assembly bolts, bearing skins, etc., which are generally called
bearing discs and are used in larger vehicles such as trucks.
Drum brakes have a cast iron shaped like a tambourine, called a
brake drum, which is fixed to the tire and rotates at the same
speed. Disc brakes have better reactivity and stability, better
heat dissipation, and easy replacement. Drum brakes are lower in
cost and higher in absolute braking power, and are more commonly
used on the rear wheels of small cars. But its abrasion rate is
higher, so at the same time the overall cost is higher.
