Description
Atomization is the best way to produce fully alloyed powders, known as pre-alloyed powders. Each particle of this powder not only has the exact same homogeneous chemical composition as the given molten alloy, but also has a refined crystalline structure due to rapid solidification; macrosegregation of the second phase is eliminated.
The atomization pulverizing method is divided into two categories:
"double-flow method" (broken alloy liquid flow by atomizing medium
flow) and "single-flow method" (broken alloy liquid flow by other
methods). The atomization medium of the former 846 is divided into
gas (helium, deuterium, nitrogen, air) and liquid (water, oil); the
latter such as centrifugal atomization and dissolved gas vacuum
atomization.
The most widely used methods are gas atomization and water
atomization. When atomizing powder, first use electric furnace or
induction furnace to smelt metal raw materials into alloy liquid
with qualified composition (generally overheated at 100-150 ℃), and
then inject it into the tundish located above the atomizing nozzle.
The alloy liquid flows out from the leakage hole at the bottom of
the tundish. When passing through the nozzle, it meets the
high-speed airflow or water flow and is atomized into fine
droplets. The atomized droplets rapidly solidify into alloy powder
in the closed atomizing cylinder. Usually, inert gas atomized
powder particles are round, with the lowest oxygen content (less
than 100×10), and can be directly made into densified products by
thermoforming techniques (such as hot isostatic pressing).
