How to Choose the Right Grit

The lower the grit#, the rougher and faster sanding process. For a rough surface, a low grit (60 to 100) is ok. For a fine, smooth finished surface, look for grit in the 120 to 240+ range.

Some projects maybe require a combination of grits - start with a low grit to efficiently power through most of the material, then switch to a high-grit paper to smooth out the surface to its final state.
