Electrolytic Tin Plate for Food Cans Tinplate Grade with Alkali and Acid Resistance
Electrolytic tinplate is a metal material that is tin-plated on the
surface of cold-rolled low-carbon thin steel plate (substrate).
This tinplate used for food cans mainly forms a uniform tin layer
on the surface of the steel plate by electrolysis. This layer of
tin can effectively isolate the steel plate from the food contents
and play a protective role.
1,Acid resistance characteristics
- Principle: The chemical properties of the tin layer itself are relatively stable in an acidic environment. Tin can form a protective film with some acidic substances (such as organic acids in food) to prevent acidic substances from further corroding the steel plate. For example, in canned fruits (such as canned citrus), when acidic components such as citric acid in the fruit contact the can body, the tin layer will undergo a certain chemical reaction, so that the tin forms a protective tin oxide film on the surface to prevent acidic substances from contacting the steel plate.
- Application advantages: This acid resistance allows tinplate to be used to package various acidic foods, such as ketchup, canned pickles, etc. If acidic food is packaged with acid-resistant materials, it is easy to cause the can body to corrode and the food to deteriorate, while tinplate can ensure the quality of food during the shelf life.
2,Alkali resistance characteristics
- Principle: In an alkaline environment, the tin layer on the surface of the tinplate can also play a certain protective role. The tin layer can prevent alkaline substances (such as some food additives that may be alkaline) from chemically reacting with the steel plate. This is because tin can resist the corrosion of hydroxide ions in alkaline solutions to a certain extent.
- Application advantages: For some foods containing alkaline ingredients, such as some functional beverages containing alkaline buffers or foods that are weakly alkaline due to special processing technology, alkaline-resistant electrolytic tinplate can effectively prevent the can body from being corroded, ensuring the safety and shelf life of the food.
