The function of the anchor:
Using the function of anchoring the bottom of the anchor and the
adhesion of the anchor chain, the ship is fixed at sea to prevent
the ship from drifting under the action of wind and current. Ships
can also be anchored at the anchor point, about the length of the
anchor chain as the radius (due to the height of the ship, the
anchor chain has an inclination angle) to rotate with the wind and
keep anchored safely within a certain sea area. This is the usual
means of ship maneuvering to ensure safe anchoring at anchorage.
The holding power of the anchor claw is related to the length of
the anchor chain and the geology of the anchorage. For example, the
grip of the mud bottom is better; the bottom quality of the rubble
is second; the bottom quality of the rock is the worst and must be
avoided. The captain must carefully study the bottom quality of the
anchorage before dropping the anchor.
