High Speed Drilling Matrix Body M522 PDC Drill Bit In Consolidated Formations
Product Description
PDC bits are designed for high speed drilling in shale, limestone,
and sandstone formations.
Unlike roller cones, these polycrystalline diamond compact (PDC)
drill bits are one piece bodies with no moving parts. The
fixed-cutters shave away the rock, making it possible to operate
with higher rotation speeds more efficiently in consolidated
formations.
MATRIX BODY PDC BITS
“Matrix” is a very hard, rather brittle composite material
comprising tungsten carbide grains metallurgically bonded with a
softer, tougher, metallic binder. Matrix is desirable as a bit
material, because its hardness is resistant to abrasion and
erosion. It is capable of withstanding relatively high compressive
loads, but, compared with steel, has low resistance to impact
loading.
Matrix is relatively heterogeneous, because it is a composite
material. Because the size and placement of the particles of
tungsten carbide it contains vary (by both design and
circumstances), its physical properties are slightly less
predictable than steel.
Matrix-body PDC bits are commonly preferred over steel-body bits
for environments in which body erosion is likely to cause a bit to
fail. For diamond-impregnated bits, only matrix-body construction
can be used.
PDC CUTTING STRUCTURE
Very soft (1) to medium (4) formation type pdc bits have one
dominant size of PDC cutter. PDC cutting structure is denoted in
the following way:
2 – this bit has mostly 19mm cutters
3 – this bit has mostly 13 mm cutters
4 – this bit has mostly 8 mm cutters
Diamond PDC bits work across an extended range of weight on bit,
penetrating quickly even at low bit weights in softer rock. When
formations firm up, the bits can take added weight with a smooth
torque response and maintain higher than competitive rates of
penetration. The technology is a departure from traditional plural
set bits that require higher weights to drill even in soft rock,
and are generally durable, but slow, even in harder rock.
Traditional plural set bits also can produce an erratic torque
response when taking additional weight.
"This innovative design allows operators to recognize drilling
efficiencies through
Increased rates of penetration.
Enhanced Stability.
Optimum product durability."
