A steel building is a metal structure fabricated with steel for the internal support and for exterior cladding, as opposed to steel framed buildings which generally use other materials for floors, walls, and external envelope. Steel buildings are used for a variety of purposes including storage, work spaces and living accommodation. They are classified into specific types depending on how they are used.

Characteristics:
1. Wide span: single span or multiple spans, the max span is 36 m without middle column
2. Low cost and high quality
3. Fast construction and easy installation
4. Long using lifespan: up to 50 years
5.Others: environmental protection, stable structure, earthquake resistance, water proofing, and energy conserving.
Applications:
1. Large span structure
Used in the town hall, gymnasium, exhibition hall, theater, hangar,
car garage, etc. The structural systems used mainly include frame
structure, arch structure, grid structure, suspension structure and
prestressed steel structure.
2. Plant structure
Such as the open hearth workshop, the initial rolling workshop, the
mixed iron furnace workshop of the metallurgical plant, the cast
steel workshop of the heavy machinery factory, the hydraulic press
workshop, the forging workshop, etc.; the shipyard workshop of the
shipyard; the assembly workshop of the aircraft manufacturer. The
main load-bearing skeletons of these workshops are often steel
structures in whole or in part. 3.
3. High-rise building
It is used for high-rise buildings such as hotels, restaurants,
apartments and office buildings.
4. Tower structure
Used in TV towers, microwave towers, high-voltage transmission line
towers, chemical exhaust towers, atmospheric monitoring towers, oil
drilling towers, rocket launch towers and radio masts.
Advantages:
Steel provides several advantages over other building materials, such as wood:
Steel is structurally sound and manufactured to strict
specifications and tolerances.
Any excess material is 100% recyclable.
Steel does not easily warp, buckle, twist or bend, and is therefore
easy to modify and offers design flexibility. Steel is also easy to
install.
Steel is cost effective and rarely fluctuates in price.
Steel allows for improved quality of construction and less
maintenance, while offering improved safety and resistance.
With the propagation of mold and mildew in residential buildings,
using steel minimizes these infestations. Mold needs moist, porous
material to grow. Steel studs do not have those problems.
