Tubing is measured by the OUTSIDE DIAMETER (O.D.), specified in inches (e.g., 1.250) or fraction of an inch (eg. 1-1/4″).
Pipe is usually measured by NOMINAL PIPE SIZE (NPS).
Although it is related to the outside diameter, it is significantly different.
The mechanical properties of 410 annealed stainless steel at a mean temperature of 68º F (20º C) include: Yield Strength 0.2% Offset: 42,000 psi (290 MPa) Ultimate Tensile Strength: 74,000 psi (510 MPa) Elongation in 2 in.: 34%
Grade 410 welding rods are recommended for tempering and post-hardening.
In the "as welded" conditions, grade 309 filler rods can be used to achieve a ductile joint.
According to AS 1554.6 standards, grade 309 electrodes or rods are preferred for welding 410 steels.
