What is a drag link on a vehicle?
A drag link connects the pitman arm on the steering gear with the steering arm on the spindle. Rotation of the steering gear input shaft causes the pitman arm to rotate back and forth. As this motion occurs, the drag link pushes or pulls the steering arm causing the wheel to pivot on its king pin.A drag link converts rotary motion from a crank arm, to a second bellcrank, usually in an automotive steering system.
What is the drag link connected to?
Drag Links (DLs) connect the steering gear and the pitman arm at one vehicle wheel. Tie Rods (TRs) connect the steering knuckles at the left and at the right wheel to transfer the steering forces.
When should you replace drag links?
Once it becomes damaged, meaning broken, warped, bent, or worn, it will need replacing. Let's take a look at some common signs that pop up at the end of the lifespan for your drag link. If your steering begins to feel off, meaning wobbly, it may be time to have the drag link replaced.
