A rubber bushing consists of a cylindrical tube of rubber. They are usually bonded
to the inner or outer curves of cylindrical metal parts like
suspension poles. Usually made of rubber or polyurethane. A
pre-stress has been applied to the bushings. Installing them in the
car makes them more durable and less susceptible to breaking.
How to inspect rubber bushings?
How to inspect your rubber bushings. If you don’t have access to a
hoist, there’s still a pretty easy way to inspect your bushings.
Jack up the car, and remove the first wheel. Once you’ve done that,
you can use a crow bar to feel around the suspension, without
having to dismantle it further.
Are polyurethane suspension bushings better?
If your drive is taking you on roads that require a degree of
handling, a polyurethane bushing offers more control in steering
and a better feel for the road. In the end, it’s best to choose the
bushing that’s better suited for the conditions of the roads.
