Specialized Phase Change Material Customized For The Pharmaceutical
Refrigerated Packaging Within The 25°C Cold Chain Framework
Features:
1. Energy storage characteristics
- When a phase change material changes from one phase state to
another, it absorbs or releases a large amount of heat. In the cold
chain, this property can be used to maintain a stable temperature
in the environment surrounding the cargo.
- For example, when the ambient temperature rises, the phase change
material absorbs heat and changes from a solid state to a liquid
state, thereby slowing down the rise in ambient temperature; When
the ambient temperature decreases, the PCM releases heat and may
change from a liquid state to a solid state, preventing the ambient
temperature from getting too low.
- Its energy storage capacity is usually expressed in enthalpy, and
the higher the enthalpy, the more heat is stored or released.
Different PCMs have different enthalpy values, and the right
material needs to be selected according to the specific cold chain
needs.
2. Appropriate phase change temperature
- For 25°C cold chain PCMs, it is critical that the phase change
temperature is around 25°C. This temperature range is suitable for
many goods that need to be refrigerated but cannot be too cold,
such as certain medicines, food, etc.
- For example, the storage temperature of some vaccines is required
to be between 2°C and 8°C, and the use of 25°C phase change
materials can absorb heat through the phase change process when the
outside temperature rises to a certain level, and maintain the
refrigeration environment within the appropriate temperature range.
3. Stability
- In terms of chemical stability, PCMs need to be able to maintain
their chemical properties over multiple phase change cycles in cold
chain applications. It should not decompose or chemically react
with packaging materials due to repeated melting and
solidification, otherwise the quality and safety of the goods may
be affected.
- Thermal stability is also important to be able to maintain its
phase change characteristics over long periods of thermal cycling.
For example, after several heating and cooling cycles, the phase
transition can still occur accurately at around 25°C, and the
enthalpy of the phase change will not drop significantly.
Fields of application:
1. Pharmaceutical cold chain
- Temperature control is crucial during the transportation and
storage of pharmaceutical products. Many pharmaceutical products,
such as biologics, vaccines, etc., have very strict temperature
requirements. 25°C cold chain special phase change material can be
used in the refrigerated packaging of drugs, when the outside
temperature fluctuates, the phase change material through the phase
change to maintain the temperature around the drug in the
appropriate range.
- For example, during the transportation of vaccines, a refrigerated
package containing PCM is placed in a transport box with the
vaccine, and even if there is a brief temperature increase during
transportation, the PCM can absorb the heat and ensure the quality
and effectiveness of the vaccine.
2. Food cold chain
- Some fresh foods, processed foods, etc., also need to be stored and
transported at specific temperatures. For example, some fruits and
vegetables can be kept fresh at temperatures close to 25°C, and the
use of 25°C PCM can maintain the freshness and quality of food
during the cold chain logistics process.
- For example, when transporting fruits such as strawberries, an ice
pack made of PCM is placed in a box, and when the outside
temperature rises, the PCM in the ice pack absorbs the heat and
melts, reducing the temperature inside the box and prolonging the
shelf life of the strawberry.
3. Transportation of electronic equipment
- Some temperature-sensitive electronic devices also need to be kept
within a certain temperature range during transportation. While the
optimal operating temperature for electronic devices may not be
25°C, 25°C cold chain-specific phase change materials can act as a
buffer to some extent.
- For example, when transporting precision electronic instruments,
the phase change material is packaged around the instrument, and
when the temperature of the transportation environment changes
greatly, the phase change material can absorb or release heat,
reduce the impact of temperature fluctuations on electronic
equipment, and prevent equipment from being damaged due to too high
or too low temperature.
